1. Q: Why does nutritional intervention take longer to produce results than pharmaceutical intervention?

A: Pharmaceutical intervention (prescription medication) is utilized to control symptoms. Powerful chemicals are introduced into the body which produces rapid physiologic changes. Nutritional intervention seeks to correct the underlying physiologic imbalances which initially caused the symptom(s). Because diet and supplementation work on a cellular level to affect your biochemistry, more time is required before noticeable results can be observed.

2. Q: Do I really have to change my diet, or can I just take the supplements and achieve the same goals?

A: Vitamins and minerals (supplements) are critical factors required by the body so that the chemical reactions which are necessary for life can take place. Supplements by themselves will not allow your body to repair itself or to achieve an improved level of health. It was most probably a diet lacking in the proper forms of macronutrients, phytonutrients, and supplements which created your problem in the first place. If you don't change your diet, the simple addition of supplements, even the correct ones, won't typically make you healthy. Dietary changes will be recommended at coordinated times throughout the program.

3. Q: Why can't I just buy vitamins I see at the supermarket or my local health food store?

A: There are tremendous differences in vitamins and minerals in regards to conditions of manufacture, potency, purity, and additives (binders and fillers). There are additives, which if used, actually prevent absorption of the very nutrient you are taking. Some manufacturers, in an effort to reduce costs, take short cuts in production or use poor binders and fillers, which often render the product less effective or useless. Additionally, product purity can determine whether or not a supplement is actually good for you or potentially harmful. Fish oil, for example, should be "molecularly distilled" to remove any toxins. Cheaper fish oils often contain high percentages of toxins and chemicals found in fish as a result of the chemicals used in farming which run off into rivers and streams and wind up, eventually in the oceans and in the fish. We recommend only products from companies which we have thoroughly researched, and we have found that the consistency of results with good products speak for themselves.

4. Q: Will I have to take the nutritional supplements for the rest of my life?

A: With nutritional intervention, you will begin a process of correction of the imbalances within your biochemistry by starting on a customized program of supplementation. Initially, this usually requires several types of supplements which decrease in number as your health improves. Along with supplementation, your diet will be altered, helping to establish a sound nutritional base from which you will continue. With time, your supplementation needs should decrease to the point of only the basic necessary nutrients, which are needed to maintain good health. These are usually on-going because even with a "good diet" the essential nutrients often can be lacking.

5. Q: If I stop taking the supplements, will I slip back into experiencing all the symptoms I had when I first started this program?

A: Once your underlying condition has been corrected, you will need to maintain a healthy diet and the basic supplements necessary for optimal health to continue. Should you choose to revert to your old unhealthy habits, over a period of time you will re-establish the same physical patterns which brought you here for treatment. We sincerely hope that through our program of education, you will choose not to go back to an unhealthy lifestyle.

6. Q: Are there any side effects to any of these nutritional supplements? If so, what are they? What should I expect?

A: Nutritional supplements are not pharmaceutical in nature and generally have no side effects. There are specific supplements which, when taken carelessly, can cause toxic reactions within the body. Other supplements, which may not be toxic, if taken to excess, may create imbalances within the biochemistry. In some instances, the application of supplements to correct deep nutritional imbalances may cause unpleasant effects such as increased gassiness as the body attempts to re-establish normalcy. These types of effects can usually be minimized with a decrease in dosage and a slow increase over a period of time in the amount taken. Because we are all biochemically unique, it is impossible to predict how any given individual will react to supplementation. Side effects are rare and most often limited to gastrointestinal upset.
